It would also be cool to see a 10 year replay of the annual model poll winners. Might also be good to compare what was new in years past to what is new today. It would show how much the hobby has progressed over the last 10-70 years.

I'd bet the upcoming 75th anniversary of MR will feature the kind of forum/roundtable that the 50th did. The anniversaries of the NMRA are always one year after the MR anniversary which is another opportunity for a major pow wow.

if its not too late, (but if it is too late, some future edition would do), i would think a lot of people who read MR would be interested in the distribution of MR by (a) over the counter sales and (b) subscriptions. and equally important, the figures for the (major) distribution centres both inside and outside the US.

I'm hoping that issue isn't set in stone yet and I can encourage one article to be included in it. I only save the last 10 years of MR and donate the retiring year to a teen friend. I will spend two months a year going through every issue and re-read old favourites and read an amazing amount that I apparently didn't read.

I think one of the pop ups I saw was a subscription campaign to subscribe and be part of the 70th Anniversary of MR.

My favourite type of article to appear in MR is the type with a number of experts or excellent hobbyists sitting around talking about the future of the hobby. As it is, I am working my way through 1994 and what did I just grab but the Jan issue of 1994, the 60th Anniversary.

In my humble estimation, THE premiere article in that issue was entitled "Model Railroading Today and Tomorrow, thoughts of MR readers in our 60th anniversary year." Please, please, please.... pretty please... could we have another article like that in the 70th issue. Or another anniversary issue had some big names in the hobby talking about trends and predictions.

So for example: Peter Thornton of Summit, NJ (a reader) almost got it right when he answered the question - "What product or technology (general or specific) do you most need to increase your enjoyment of the hobby??

His response - "Lower cost integrated wireless and battery operation. This would be combination of command control (e.g. digitally addressed receivers). digital sound, and rail-control technology for self-powered locos. The Bachmann "Big Hauler" shows the benefits in a rudimentary way, but we need miniature batteries and motors for HO equipment with receivers to match."

This type of article is not only fun to read in the current issue, but its fun to re-read it when it is years old.
