Campbell makes several beautiful wood trestle kits in HO which would look similar and probably satisfy your desire for something wood and spindly looking. Check the Walthers Catalog for the full line of Campbell kits.

There most certainly was a plastic kit to build this very bridge but it was long ago (perhaps in the 1970's?). As I recall, it was probably closer to N scale than to HO. I'm really unsure when it comes to the maker but it might have been Revell. Watch eBay as one of these kits might turn up their sooner or later.

Without question, scratchbuilding something as complex as the Kwai River bridge with any accuracy whatever would require a more detailed plan than just simply grabbing images from the movie. You might try looking for a forum or website that deals with this movie. Someone there might have a copy of the Revell (?) plans.

You probably DO have the skills to scratchbuild a bridge. Why not get the Kalmbach bridge building book, and start out with a simple one...then move on up...I'll bet you will surprise yourself.
