I HAVE N SCALE AND WHEN I ORDER COUPLERS MOST OF THE TIMES THE COUPLERS DO NOT FIT DUE TO THE SIZE OF THE HOLES IN THE CARS THEMSELVES. SOME OF THE COUPLERS ARE CALLED KNUKLE COUPLERS AND ALSO KAYDE. CAN SOME ONE EXPLAIN THIS TO ME

Areyou installing just a coupler, or a truck with a coupler? What brand of cars are you using? What brand of couplers are you installing?

I think you are talking about the different truck bolster pins in various lines of Nscale equipment. If converting to MTL i'd go to their website and check for the kind of conversion required for each brand of car. Atlas, Model Power and Lifelike seem to use the same size hole & you can either reuse the old pin or use the MTL one. Concor tends to be a larger hole & MTL makes an adapter to get the hole down to a size the pin fits into. Bachmann are the worst with their screw- mount pin and funny size extra piece. It's hard to make the bolster hole in the MTL truck bigger.

There may be a reference for this in the NTRAK website or go post this to the Atlas Nscale forum to get other ideas how to do this. Welcome to Nscale and don't let this problem bother you. I wi***he model mfr's would agree on how to mount trucks to the cars. IMHO the best system is to have a metal nut for the metal screw to go into with a plastic washer if needed for correct coupler height.

Yeah, I've gone there with Bachmann once (and returned it). However, I wonder if anyone has any experince with converting their newer "Silver" series cars? I recall looking one over and noticed that while it still had a screw mount, the wheels are blackened metal and looked nice. I wonder if an MT truck conversion is easy (or possible) on one of these? With the over-priced MSRP, and the numbers starting to collect dust at my LHS, I anticipate a clearance sale in the future... [:D]

With Bachman , you are better off using a 1128 or 1129 coupler conversion, which I admit is not for everyone, using the orginal bolster pins does work best sometimes on certain cars, What kind of cars are you converting over?
