hello

I have 2 Athrean SW 1200 locmotives. One is powered and the other was until the motor sied in it. I also striped out the gears. I wanted to know if it is possible to mak ethe dimmy loco a claf unit.

If you mean to say turn that dead power unit into a dummy sure it can be done.
All you need to do is remove the motor,drive shafts and gears..If you want to make that dummy a calf unit then have your dealer to order part number 41007 the calf hood...Then you would remove the standard switcher cab and replace it with the calf hood..The calf hood will cost you $3.00..

How in the world did you do that? Athearn engines are practically indestructible. You could also consider going to a local train show and picking up the used parts for about the same price to repair it. Many people remotor Athearn engines with higher quality motors and someone from your local hobby shop may be glad to either give you one or sell it to you for a couple of bucks.
