Stephen,

I was really busy on the layout a few weeks ago, but we have had family in town all last week and this week. Then next week another relative in town to visit, don't get much done when entertaining guests.

But I did just make a big wiring purchase with Mouser and it is to arrive tomorrow. Bus and feeder wire, connectors and terminal blocks.

Thanks for the web visit!

Cheers,

Ryan

SilverSpike aha you added some stuff since I was last there. Good for you. Looking good guy.

I add stuff almost daily now. It will slow down as soon as I run out of ideas I am sure. :)

This is good stuff! We all need tutorials regardless of our experience levels.

Got two more suggestions for your links page...

Cliff Power's Magnolia Route => http://magnoliaroute.com/
Joe Fugate's Siskiyou Line => http://siskiyou-railfan.net/

Also picked up a direct link to (234) of Bob Grech's pictures at Photobucket for "engineerbob" from another MRR Forum posting that you might add under his link on your website...

The website charts are absolutely priceless. You have a ton of common sense in your tutorials that one mostly learns through trial and error. Keep up your well-received efforts.

Pioneer G Stick around, in two weeks I plan to start the real wooding work and also some of the buildings. I got the water tank started, but not posted yet, for instance. Come back every week or so and there will be more, either pictures or info or both. [:)]
As my friends say " I am full of it", info that is LOL.
I am glad you enjoy it.

tommyr been there and it was nice. I rode the shay in summerland. [:D]

selector thank you. It has been a few years since I done anything like this and clearly I can use the practice as well. Thanks again. [:)]

tcf511 I didn't code it, it is an option when you paste it into googlepages. You can make it small medium or large. I made it small out of consideration for people on dial up so they don't have to wait so long. Thanks for looking. [:)]

Tom Bryant_MR Yes you do, because it really does hurt to tear up track after you lay it down. One idea that might help though, compress the buildings a bit. Make them a tad smaller if you can. Just don't make a 10 foot house though LOL.
Another idea, [though I hate to do it myself] is use less track. Leaving out even one track in a yard can make a huge difference when you consider the track, then the clearance etc. Comes to about 3 or 4 inches wide or 12 to 16 scale feet.
Also make your sidings only 1 or 2 car lengths instead of say 5 or 8. This way you can put in a tiny dock to unload and a decent building on the end of the track instead of beside it.

I hope that helps you out there Tom Bryant_MR. [:D]

Thanks to all of you guys for your comments. At least I know it has made someone think. And that's good.
Thanks again.

I like that you have mocked up the buildings. I for one, know that on mine, I've not put enough thought into this part and before I get any track down on the sceniced parts, I really need to do this.

Good job.

I'm sure that site took quite a bit of time. I'm kind of past that point in the building of my layout but there is certainly good information there. How did you code having the thumbnail photos expandable? Thanks for your efforts.

You have clearly put a lot of effort into this, and I hope you get a decent return in the way of feedback and use. Your explanations are straightforward and well presented.

Good luck.

Hi There;
I checked out your tutortial it is very good. I don't need it as I have been in the hobby for 50 years. But I think you have done an excellent job of explaining the basics. I share your frustrations of not many replies. I guess it's because we don't have multi thousand postings?
PS If you ever leave the rain forrest & come up to the sunny Okanago email me & maybe we can get together.

Tutorial is done
Posted by fsm1000 on Friday, June 16, 2006 7:13 PM
Ok as some of you know I have been running a tutorial on my website. The main part of which is done. I am not going to add the words here because without the pictures it wouldn't make sense.
But you can find it at
http://fsm1000.googlepages.com
Under Model Railroading in one of two catagories.
"Starting a layout" [three parts] and "How to make your benchwork" [four parts].
There are many photos so for those on dial up you have been warned.
I do hope this helps someone who is just starting or coming back. I also hope it encourages some to try thier hand at scratch building as well.
Please leave a comment for me so I can know where to go with this. If it is not helping anyone then No problem I can stop bugging you guys with this stuff and just read here.
I say this because of not getting comments on my other posts except for some to say that the formating this forum did was not very good. I got only a couple good comments.
So if no one is interested then please say so. I can start doing other stuff.
Thanks for all those who do and did comment. Your support means something [:D]
