Hmm ok I am planning on modeling this bridge in particular. This one the deck is only about 5 feet wide and it is completely suspended, not attached to solid ground in any way except through the cables. This is at Hot Springs State Park in Thermopolis Wy.

Of course, I would make the deck solid to the ground as it would be a bad idea to have swinging tracks. But I think it would really accent the layout.

On one of my past layouts, I modeled a suspension bridge to a prototype that crossed the Tama River in the wilds of Northwestern Tokyo. Main cables were twisted #16 stranded wire, suspenders were #22 solid wire, footway wires were twisted #18 stranded wire. Layed out the catenary curve on a piece of poster board, stuck pins in it and used it as a jig (over a beat-up old drawing board.)

Of course, the prototype only had a capacity of five hikers or three bicyclists, but the model looked pretty good.

"Wilds of Northwestern Tokyo?" Tokyo is a provence, not just a city, and the part in Chichibu-Tama National Park is a lot more like rural West Virginia than like Manhattan.

There was one a year or so ago. There is a prototype in Wales. I would hope that the person who did this will respond. It was back early summer last year if I remember.
