Well, I have them all on CAV Laserdisc so DVDs are a big step backward. I wonder how they decided which frames to leave out.

It is a real shame that the arrival of the DVDs in force nixed the transfer of the original Indiana Jones series to a CAV Laserdisc set.

Thank heaven for fussy filmmakers. Otherwise all we would get is TV quality junk. Just because a junky image is slapped onto a DVD does not make it "good" by any streach of the imagination.

Darth Vader strikes me more as a yardmaster than an engineer. Could you just picture him strangling an engineer with the force just like he did to that admiral?

How about having a Star Wars character replace the Pearl White "Perils of Pauline" lead character - and then just leave him (her, YX, it) tied to the track.

Just think! Darth Vader versus Y-6b. (Squish!!!)

Speaking of Mad Max...I believe the longest railway tangent (straight track) is in the "nullarbor" area of Australia, I forget how many hundred miles of perfectly straight track it is.

Darth Vader, of coarse.[:D] He would be the engineer, and R2-D2 would be the fireman, and the trash can droid from that jawa tank thing would be the firewood...[:D]

At least being a Star Wars nerd keeps people from laughing at me for being a train nerd too! I liked the original cuts better for the story too, but I do prefer the effects in the updated versions. Han SHOULD have just shot Greedo like he did in the original release, not have both shooting at the same time. I despise P.C.!!! The story is also about how all the characters change troughout the story, not just certain ones. Wait until you start reading the books that pick up where the movies leave off, things get a lot more interesting.

For an engineer figure, it would have to be Chewie. He was always there when he was needed, right on time, with all that he needed, and he could operate or fix anything. Second choice would be Boba Fett just because of the cool Mandalorian armor.

Jar-Jar AND the Ewoks both stink!!! I still have trouble watching Return of the Jedi just because of the disgusting fuzzballs. Should have been building the D.S. 2 near Kashyyyk instead of Endor, then it would have been cool!!

Good Luck, Morpar

I envy Obi-Wan Kenobi. He can use The Force to uncouple his cars, so he doesn't need magnets or bamboo skewers. And I bet those light sabers are great for cutting foam. Anybody know any good LHS's on Tatooine?

MisterBeasley,

I'm gonna disagree - Ewoks rock. On the other hand - I'm picturing in my mind Jar-Jar with an engineer's hat on, head sticking out the cab window of a 4-6-2, ears flappin in the breeze. Of course I doubt Darth the Dispatcher Vader would ever allow him to stay on schedule.

Maybe we should start a poll? Which Star War's character would you most like to see produced by Preiser as an Engineer?

One of the Mad Max movies (Thunderdome, maybe?) had the grand final battle scene on a train racing down a totally straight track through the Australian desert. Y'know, the one where Mel Gibson dukes it out with X-treme spiked-hair bikers in a post-apocalyptic world? But, if society had completely collapsed, where did they get the Gel for their hair?

You may not think much of Jar-Jar, but IMHO he's better than the Ewoks.

i love those first three movies. Probably because my dad and I saw all three in the theater. Kinda like him and me with model railroading.

The cool thing is, I saw the three new episodes in the theater with my son. Kinda cool how it all works.

I saw the story earlier today. I will probably buy them on the first day of release. Never did like the edited version.

Now, back to trains! [:D]

I really disliked the "special editions" mostly the P.C.ing of it, Lucas actually cut out dialog to make room for extra wiz-bang effects. Sad to say by the time he reissued these with all the changes he already forgot that the 'story" is whats most important, instead of how many effects you can cram into a movie...hence the dissappointing nature of the last 3 flicks. Lucas once said, "they're MY movies, and THIS will be the only version" ever on DVD. Well they're MY memories of sitting in a theater watching a 60 foot high screen munching popcorn. If MY memories are compromised, I simply wont buy the product. Apparently quite a few fans agreed and made enough of a stink to finally get Lucas to relent. According to the article BOTH versions will be included in this release, original AND special. I'm sure Lucas post-rationalised that it about "comparing' the two different incarnations and had nothing to do with a few milion angry fans from around the world[;)]

Well, I guess that's nice for Star Wars purists, but I personally like the re-done versions best.[:)]

Jar-Jar's not my favorite character either, but I can do a pretty good imitation of his voice, which I guess really isn't anything to be proud of.[:D]

Posted by vsmith on Thursday, May 4, 2006 5:17 PM
For us Uber-geeks![;)]

Fans hold Lucas's feet over the fire long enough, fussy filmmaker now cries Uncle and will FINALLY release the ORIGINAL theatrical versions of the first 3 Star Wars film! No stupid PCing, no "extra" special effects that sacrifice dialog. Limited time release in Sept, only 3-4 months, like Bambi, start saving your Imperial Credits today![:D]

Full story:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/usatoday/20060504/tc_usatoday/starwarsgoesbacktobasics

Now if we can get Lucas into an Iron Maiden and force him to digitally REMOVE Jar-Jar from all the other 3 movies!!!![:p]
