HI Mike,

This is my service facility. It's for both steam and diesel. Most of the structures are Walthers with modifications. There are a few more pics at Photobucket or I could post them here if it would help.

My engine facility will be based on a prototype. A 2 stall "running repair" shop (each stall holds 3-4 engines), 3 stall roundhouse and a large shop that will have at least 5 stalls.

I haven't got to diesel fuel facilities yet. Presently I'm building a N&W "Lubritorium" or lube house. It's like a quickie lube for locomotives. The only photo's I have at this time are of the prototype. There is one in use today by the Norfolk Southern at their Bluefield terminal.

I can recommend a few books. Each under $20

I have the bachman diesel fueling rack, its nice, but looks klunky & might take up alittle more space than I want... are there any other company's that make structures for servicing area.

BTW thanks for the info & more photos *** are always appreciated...

thanks

Mike,
Here's another view of the White River service and yard facility on my Hahvid Yahd & White River RR. BTW, you might want to get a copy of The Model Railroader's Guide To LOCOMOTIVE Servicing Terminals by Marty McGuirk from Kalmbach. A lot of great shots and ideas large and small!

Walthers has a full line of servicing facilities including:

Diesel Fueling Rack
Sanding Tower and House (with drying bin)
3 different Coaling Towers (a large concrete, a small concrete and a small wood)
Steel and Wood Water Tanks
Expandable Roundhouse (3-stall increments)
Modern Diesel House (3-track)
Car Shop (3-track)
Machine Shop (1-track)
Ash Pit and Conveyor
Variety of Turntables

I'm probably missing a couple. I've built most of these kits for my facility and they are all of a reasonable quality and not too difficult to assemble.

The link below has a promotional Walthers picture that shows one way you could arrange these structures together.

Mike,

Overall view of both steam & diesel facilities and service track

Diesel facility

Steam facility

When you're scrunched for space, it's kinda hard to fit everything in and in a logical manner. Most of the kits are Walthers Cornerstone. The small Fairbanks-Morse coaling tower is Suncoast Models.
