I bought a lot on eBay awhile back and gave the extra Rivarossi cars to my 6yo son. He thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. They are some older cars that were brush painted and look like carp, but he thinks it is awesome when I pull them behind my El Cap/Super Chief, so it is well worth it. I keep telling myself that they are deadheading somewhere, so it works out!! (the Santa Fe would have had a cow if they would have had to run these cars on that train)

Always a tender moment when a son expresses an interest in doing what dad does.

I hope you will take the time to "play" with him and your trains. It's a perfect opportunity to explain railroad operations in miniature and expose him to "modeling" rather than "playing" with trains.

Have fun. These are memories that will last a lifetime!

I had a pleasant moment this week:

My model railroad is in an unheated garage in Indiana. My son came up a few days ago and asked me, "Dad, since it's not cold all the time now, can we play with your toy trains some evening?"
