Personally, I don't do the club scene, too many bad memories of clubs and persons associated with those clubs i've frequented in the past. I'd say its gotta be F units hands down. I think its been athearns most produced loco, while both life-like, tyco, model power, and bachmann cranked them out in mass for train sets. And that dosent even get to the nice ones from stewart, athearn genuis, etc. and thats only in HO. Whild other scales may not have as many, I do know they exist.
after F units im really not sure what would be next. While bigboys are over produced, i'm sure there are tons of other models that have been produced in far excess of them. Not really sure though what. probaly certian geeps, but again im not really sure whic ones.

When you add in the number sold with toy store train sets, the F-7 runs away and hides from the rest of the competition!

I personally rank the UP 4000 class as the most OVERPRODUCED model loco in history. After all, they only ran on one railroad (a big and popular one, granted) and there were only 25 of them. I suspect that some collectors have that many (or more) in their collections.

Mac 4884, we S devotees have a varity of F to chose from as well, RTR with DCC and sound if so desired. Now steam can be an issue, but we have kits available that can do the job, if not Bachman's On30 line can be reguaged and redetailed. We have RTR 2-8-0's, 4-8-4's and
4-6-2's S is no longer a scale requiring blacksmith skills

What about the most produced electric & steam, I say the gg1 & 2-6-0 or sp 4-8-4. This again includes scales Z, N, HO, HON3, On3, O 3rail & 2 rail, G narrow, G, & 13/4in kits

Add some close relatives to the F class like NSWR 42 Class. The various Australian versions have been produced as models over the years.



If Big Boys are the most produced model then there is something wrong with us as modellers. How many ever existed in the real world and what was the extent of their operation? They are nice though, so maybe I am just jealous that I do not have one!

Absolutely the F-unit...by a margin almost beyond imagination! Athearn, alone, has produced far in excess of one million of these locomotives by their own admission! What other loco could possibly compare to such a number of engines?

My money is on the Fs also. I think almost every manufacturer made one. I would also like to see the Roco FP upgraded.

I would say the conventional F units. Unusual types such as FP and FL variants seem rare though - Nobody has offered a plastic FL9 and finding FP7/FP9s is still difficult - is there a more recent model than the E R Models ones with the Roco drive units? I know Roco were planning to release an upgraded model but I think it may have been a victim of their financial troubles last year.

I think F units. Everybody seems to make zillions of them especially in Union Pacific or ATSF.

The F units and all its variants are the most overproduced models. I suppose that every modeller thinks his collection isn't complete unless he has one of these!

My pick is any F unit. With all of them on the market right now, you think some manufacturer would take the risk of producing an FL9............ It was probably just as common as the GG1....Anyways, my second choice is the Mikado. It seems like every HO manufacturer makes them- too bad kato hasn't re-ran their N scale one in a while[:(]

Big Boys!! Or so it seems. And the sad part is I don't even own one of these, nor do I plan to (sorry, U.P.) I think nearly everyone has had a crack at the gorgeous F units; I have quite a few. Once I get a few RS3's, I think my diesel roster will be complete (yeah, riiigghht....) A few steamers more might be excessive (since I already have 8), but who knows.

Although this probbally sounds like a dumb question I believe the F-7 is the most produced loco but I may be wrong & would like to find out.
I do know that BLI, athrean (BB, assembled, & genisis), AZL, kato, Model Power, Walthers, Lifelike( before it became part of walthers), Proto, Bachmann, Mth, Lionel ,Lgb ,Atlas, & a handful of others make f-7's
