Transformer size question and ideas....
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, April 2, 2006 3:54 PM
Just a quick question.....

First the backround...
This is my first O scale train and I had an HO about 20 or so years ago.... so it's been awhile for me.

Here is what I have K Line Sante Fe Steam Chief Passenger Train Set
Model K-L1116.
It came with the 4x8 oval track and all the goodies.

Here is what I am doing.

I originally baught this to suspend from my sons bedroom ceiling. Plans have changed. Now it is going to be ran in my sun room. I will end up with a 24' by 10' oval all the way around.
My concern is wether the transformer that came with the set will have enough juice to run the full 66 odd feet of track or not. I believe that it is a 40 watt or so. I will be running only the 1 train with 3 lighted passenger cars on the single track.
I haven't even gotten the train in the mail yet and am giddy with anticipation.....

Any suggestions on a way to mount the track to the wall would also be appreciated. Here is my idea.

I will be using 4 inch L brackets on one long wall and the 2 short walls and 3/4 inch plywood for the track bed. On the other 24 foot wall I am planning on having the shelf be approximately 12 inches deep so that I can display the 20 or so buildings and other scenery stuff I also baught and have yet to receive.....
Needless to say I got sucked in hook line and sinker with this train business and am officially a junkie.....

Any ideas and input would be great....

Thanks,

Brad,

It happens to the best of us. [#welcome] to the forum! Good to have you aboard! [:)]

As far as power packs for O-scale, I can't give you specifics but I can give you a good manufacturer: MRC. Their DC power packs are the bench standard and second to none. You can even get them with amperage and voltmeters built-in. Here's their link:

Time...It marches on...without ever turning around to see if anyone is even keeping in step.
