Athearn's CF7

it such great news that Athearn has come out with the CF-7 ready to run. now none of us model railroaders will have to use a shell from Rail Powers Products. i sure am looking forward to when Athearn releases an undecorated version of their CF-7. I am going to get 1 or 2 of the topeka type angular cab CF-7's for my HO scale Leelanau County Railway. They will be painted Railbox yellow with black lettering. What would be best way to paint on of the undecorated models? if the undecorated version comes with the windows intact how could you paint around them?

(Somewhere) I still have an old RPP CF7 that I painted up. I seem to remember it having some running problems, though. Once I get back to MRRing, I might have to get me one of those "new" CF7's!!

Re: paint remover, I've always liked Scalecoat's paint remover, but I'm not sure whether it's still available or not, but it always worked great!

You might 91% alcohol from Walgreens, it's cheap, readily available and I undersatnd it works in a couple of hours. I think 91% is correct, or something like that.[:)]

This is only a sneek peek guys. Most of the CF7's I've seen are just plan yellow.
Trust me there probaley will be an undecerated version.

This is only a sneek peek guys. Most of the CF7's I've seen are just plan yellow.

I didnt see an undecorated model listed on Athearn's site. I would love to custom paint another CF-7 for the Washington Central (a short line that was bought out by BNSF). I guess ill have to get a painted model and strip the factory paint off it.

i am looking foward to getting one. all of my engine roster is santa fe. the cf7 has made it to some strange places, not the least of which is the boston engine terminal commuter rail yard at south station as the terminal switcher. it was sprayed over with a light silver paint with a big T for the mbta commuter rail. but the santa fe logo is bleeding through it .it has run pretty well but it looks tired.

I guess I can stop shopping eBay for Rail Power Products shells. Couldn't tell from the photo on athearn's website but did they revise the door/hinge/latch details along the hood?

I have mine on order. Just what every ATSF fan needs. Besides they got onto so many shortlines, so I think it's nice to see a unique engine now and again. How about a GN NW-5 wouldnt some guys like to see one of those? Or a Rock Island TA? Now and again we need a niche engine in plastic.
