Hi all,

I might be a little late to this party, but here goes. I wrote and produced the series "Trackside" with Dave Reed that ran on RFD-TV from July 2004 to February 2005.

While I can't address whatever happened with "The Train Show", I can tell you that "Trackside" wasn't cancelled.. They simply ran all of the programs we had produced at the time that fit into their programming format (monthly).

The one completed episode that didn't run was our show about the camp car in Agawa Canyon, which would have left them with a hole in their programming for the balance of March. They told me that they wold be quite interested in any additional programs once I had them produced. Since RFD was looking for more railroading programming, I put Rich Einhorn in touch with them.

My thought is that RFD would be happy to air more railroading programs if they could find them of suitable quality that hadn't already been aired. I just don't think there's that much out there from which to choose. I personally consider myself very luck to have had the chance for our programs to get out there at all. And I'm grateful to those on this thread that still remember the show.

Hope this helps, or at least is of some interest.

I wasn't quite sure if the program (THE TRAIN SHOW) had been cancelled by RFDTV or if the producers had run out of gas. Now I know.
I found this program to be just a little on the erratic side; nevertheless I did try to catch it on a regular basis. I admittedly got a little tired of live steam on Long Island. This is not surprising as many years ago (when Custer was still a cadet) I had an AF assignment in Massachusetts and learned then that, for people on the east coast civilization ends fifty miles beyond the right bank of the Susquehanna. There is a place called California but its a six month journey by covered wagon to get there.
I don't know where the one respondent got his 2:30 PM only time because, except when the network was broadcasting an auction, it was always tramsmitted three times in a 16 hour period and then again once on the weekend usually ear-r-r-r-ly Monday morning.

Another disappointment from RFD-TV. First was Dave Reeds' Trackside shows and now The Train Show have bit the dust. While Trains and Locomotives is still on, it can leave alot to be desired. Hope DIY is listening. The Train Show certainly would be a good companion to Workin' on the Railroad!

How many saw the Train Show's visit to Art Fahie's (Bar Mills Models) Niagara & Pearl Creek N gauge layout? Getting an overall view of that great layout, from angles one never saw covered in the magazines, as well as hearing Art's take on urban modeling, was very enlightening to anyone interested in creating such dense, vertical, scenery. I think that it was the best show Rich had in his line-up.

I was wondering why I could no longer see the Train Show. Rich, the host, could attend something like Toastmasters to become a more natural speaker, but I liked the broad range of model railroading covered. Overall, I give the show high marks. They have been running the "I Love Toy Trains" videos in its former time slot, but I can hardly stand them as they are soooo cheesey.

The "Working on the Railroad" show on DIY Network has been great. If only our local PBS station would carry Tracks Ahead.

I TIVO'd this show (season pass) which allowed me to always get it (as they kept changing the time). I wasn’t overly impressed with every episode, as most were rather east coast heavy. But there were several good episodes, and it's a shame RFD dropped it. Only show I watched on RFD, so they just lost a viewer.

"Tracks Ahead", and "Working on the Railroad" are still out there though and they are good shows. I was considering contacting the train show about featuring some of my layouts. Guess this will never happen [:(]

RFD-TV conducts a viewer poll on-line and by mail, so they probably got a lot of responses from viewers who wanted to see something else. The MC of The Train Show has the personality of a dead fish, and that probably didn't help the ratings.

DIY still has the show... it's on Saturdays at 8:30 and 11:30 PM EST. I've only caught one ep so far, but it looks like they have at least the rest of the season before they're going to stop making the episodes (if they do).

Is there anything on cable concerning model trains?

I know DIY did a show for a short time.

I'm not sure. I don't have a dish so I never saw it on TV.

You can only find it on the web now @ www.thetrainshow.com

Personally I think the web site is messy but after you get used...it's fine. Most of the episodes were moved to the members area but still some good free content.

Very unfortunate. This was an interesting show covering a wide diversity of subjects and layouts visits.

I was wondering why I couldn't find it anymore. I'm sorry (and surprised) that RFD-TV cancelled it. I enjoyed the show's wide range of railroad subjects--everything from N scale layouts to live steam and prototype museums. And I liked Rich Einhorn's friendly manner.
Maybe DIY network might pick it up to run as a companion program to WORKIN' ON THE RAILROAD (which is turning out to be quite a good show).
Hopefully, RFD-TV won't abandon their train schedules completely--TRAINS AND LOCOMOTIVES usually has an hour of very good 1:1 railroad programming, and lots of ideas for modelers.
But I'll miss Rich E. He seems like a really nice fellow.

I'm sad to see the train show cancelled. As somebody who actually watched it I can tell you it was great. I had my DVR set to record it everytime it was on. Maybe they will pick it back up. Fred

Gee, I hope they can re-market this program to another channel. We don't get RFD here, so we've never had the opportunity to see this show. Given the rubbi***hat fills 90% of the bandwidth, you would think someone would be willing to try something different. Maybe if we changed terms like "weathering your locomotive" to "pimping your engine" we might attract their attention.

Nope, Chuck, Workin' on the Railroad is an entirely different program on a different channel.

I'm sorry to see The Train Show go-- we were very happy with the piece that Rich E. put together on our Operations Road Show layout and operating sessions at last year's NMRA National Convention in Cincinnati. He stumbled across our layout by accident and turned it into an episode of his show.

I wasn't particularly impressed by this show, plus the fact RFD-TV changed the time back a while ago to about 2:30 in the afternoon I couldn't watch it anyway.

Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, March 29, 2006 10:37 AM
Email from Rich.

Our show has been cancelled by the President of RFD-TV, Patrick
Gotsch. Numerous phone calls requesting an explaination at to why,
have been ignored and we can't explain to our viewers or sponsors why
this has happened.

We would like to thank all of you that have watched us on RFD-TV
and hope that you will continue to do so by subscribing to our tv show
online.

We produced over 75 tv shows [before the 40 shows on RFD-TV]
and will continue to do so.

Thank You 'All Aboard' -richie
