OK I'm breathing now....................It can take your breath away.

Going to work on a basic plan (not like some of these I've see here) and go from there ordered some books and catalogs, think I'll go with Atlas 80 track read some other posts and seems to be well like track.

I will start with a basic layout in a U shape aprox. 24ft long 2' to 4' wide.

Just finished an 0 guage 2 train layout with my Dad (a small 5'x10') with 7 remote switches. So have got a very small idea what I'm in for....OK maybe not, but looking forward to it. (I really don't like Lionel 0 guage just to big)

The trestle on page 76 April issue is Unbelievable are there any other links for this layout? No I just like looking at it not going to build one!

Thanks again
I'll keep reading the forums and learning

Howdy Been in N scale for over 25 years and I have used Atlas all that time. Granted the switch machines look a litle weird but I have all hand thrown switches anyway. They make wiring easy and perform great.
If I can make one small suggestion, please don't build too big on the 1st layout. It would be easy to lose interest with a big layout as you cant experience all the different parts of building one very quickly. If you spent a long time on track installation then plastering it can be a while till you build your 1st tree. I laid the track then scenicked each section little at a time.
Theres lots that can be done in N scale Please take a look at my layout, its not bad and is N

A fully assembled N gauge round house. GOOD luck on that one! I'm sure there's kits out there. (Did you mean an assembled turntable?) I still say good luck on that.
It sounds like you need to take a deep breath and slow down....This hobby can be a bit overwelming when you first get bit.
Don't run out and spend a bunch of money before you have a plan. HIGH quality stuff can cost thousands of dollars for a small layout.
Do your homework, get a plan and THEN ask questions here. This forum is a great source of info, but you have to have a game plan before we can help you.(BREATH!)
And by the way,[#welcome],[:o)]

Track code: 55, 80, etc, is the hieght of the rail in 1/1000 of inches. Thus code 55 is .055" tall.

Basic Track Questions
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, February 26, 2006 8:22 PM
Well like most others, went to Train show here in Indianapolis and was HOOKED on the N gauge layouts. Now I'm ready to get started on getting started!

Can anyone recommend one brand track over another (had planned one atlas)? But there are so many.

Also what the heck do all those gauge #'s mean? 55,100 etc. i.e "i use 100 on main line and 55 on turn outs"...........

The only real thing I'm sure of is my layout WILL have a roundhouse.......please recommend a high quality one that will do it all. Prefer a fully assembled one. The Atlas one looks kinda cheap.

and yes I will use DCC luv the tecno stuff.

Thats the extent of my plan so far......I will prob. join a club and hit some swap meets to learn more.

Thanks for your help.
