I do all my model shopping at Walthers in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I figure, if they don't have it, then it just ain't to be had. I never have had any problem using my card on line with them.

I bought quite a few pieces through eBay now and not had a problem, so I voted for eBay.

I also buy from Walthers on-line even though you pay the full list price for stuff. American railroad stuff can be tricky to track down at LHS here in the UK and is always very expensive so I prefer to go to Walthers where I know I can get the stuff I want (and lets face it if Walthers haven't got it no-one has).

I bought quite a few pieces through eBay now and not had a problem, so I voted for eBay.

I've heard to many horror stories to really want to shop on line. From the guy who spray painted his plastic engine with a brass paint and sold it as a brass engine, to the products that don't show or are in poorer shape than advertised.

If I can't hold the product in my hands or examine it some how, I won't buy it unless it is from a recognized dealer.

I check eBay often, but only end up buying maybe 5% items I bid on.
An incredible array of items are available on any given day. That said,
most of my money goes to two local shops in the DFW area.

I have looked at ebay and I have not been impressed with the merchandise available. I have ordered via the net from several merchants who also have a store out front. So far I have been pleased with them all, especially onlinetrains.com Good prices and fast delivery are my keys.

I am in country Australia, and my best shopping tools are the Internet and Post. There are no hobby shops within reach. I mostly tend to shop from manufacturers, and I also do business via the Internet in the USA and UK. I am not afraid to use my credit card as long as the site looks OK, but many do not like cards from outside the USA.

Being at the 'bottom'of the world in New Zealand means that most purchases are made
thru ebay...about 100 so far and only one problem to date. i also buy from dealers/stores
on-line with no problems so far and if i'm willing to pay a little extra for air shipping, the stuff
usually arrives within 7 days. kia ora !

As an ex-hobby shop owner, I know what it is like. Therefore, I shop with my local shop (at full retail), the internet (if I'm buying bulk, i.e. track), and have made quite a few purchases on Ebay. If I use Ebay, it's wise to sometimes check what else the seller has, since shipping is cheaper for several items than for just one. I've made some excellent purchases, and one sale, and have 100% positives in both directions.

Just remember, if we don't use our brick and mortar shops, we may not have any in the future.

order via phone. There hasn't been a good model railroading hobby shop in this area for 40 years now. Manufacturers have overlooked the folks who model the Canadian, railways. Wish MR would bring back the $Dollar Car$ series.

If I order from an on line shop, I've been using Wig-Wag, LLC, most lately, but you simply cannot beat eBay if you are patient and flexible. I would not own even one MDC Roundhouse 2-8-0 at the MRSP of $189.95, but I have acquired two for less than $150. total including shipping. Today, I sent off a certified check for a Micro-Trains car, including shipping, at 75 percent of MSRP. Not only that, but M-T sold it only in a set and I didn't want three. Unfortunately, eBay is not as good as it was a year or so ago, before everyone had cleaned out their stored "junk". It seems now the only time unusual stuff comes up it's an "estate sale" - some poor guy has died and it's either someone who doesn't know a boxcar from an E6 or someone who thinks Bachmann stuff is made of solid gold that's selling the estate![:p][:p][:p]
