When I was at Timonium this past weekend I hoped to see one. Sure enough, I found one vendor who had one, but he wouldn't even open the box for me to look at it! He had it priced at about $1450 as I recall.
Although purchasing it wasn't out of the question, I sure as heck wasn't going to buy it without even looking! And something at that price requires a run on the test track as well! He claimed if he unwrapped the loco the amount he could sell it for would drop drastically, since all his mail order customers wanted unopened items.
I looked at him, thinking "What about your customers standing here looking at your face?" I just turned and walked away.
I hope he's stuck with it forever (but he's probably already sold it).

as a die hard GN Fan, I have to say that this loco is very nice.

But, Its way out of my price range. If I can find one for about $500-600 I might give it real heavy consideration. But at list price. More than my pocket book can afford.

Tom--you're right, she's a real beauty (though I've always been partial to the earlier GN S-1 4-8-4 with the lower drivers and the Belpaire firebox), and much as I love brass and as much as I think that Great Northern steam is really handsome, I'm going to pass on this one. But from what I've seen of the detail and read about the sound quality, I'd say that even at the price BLI's asking, it seems pretty reasonable to me.
It is a beauty, though!
