I like the new format. I would give up when the list of post got large just didn't like haveing to jump all over the screen.

Rick and Peter, I certainly do think this is an order of magnitude improvement over the old Trains.com forums. I am surprised it took so long to make the change, as the World's Greatest Hobby forum has used this (Snitz) format since last year. If you think there have been ugly flame wars on other forums, this group of forums outdoes them all in that department, especially on the prototype end. God help you if you're not a rabid union man and open your mouth over there!

I think that one of the reasons this went on was due to the inability to read all the posts on a thread at once on the old Trains.com forums. Trolls could say the most outrageous things and they'd get buried quickly. That won't happen in this new format, so I'll be curious to see whether or not our hosts step in here like Paul Graf and others do at Atlas.

BTW, the timng was perfect, too perfect.. Atlas shut down for its annual vacation July 3 rd, Thurdsay, and these forums debuted on July 7th, Monday. We have two ex-MR guys as regulars on the Atlas N scale forum, so I suppose those who are not ex- were also watching and waiting for the opportunity. Great timing and congrats, us forum junkies were looking for someplace new with Atlas shut down! [}:)][:D][}:)][:D]

Their most recent shut down is because they are on a well deserved vacation. It would have been nice if they had just set the forum into archive mode while they are out so yoy can look at other posts instead of pulling the plug on the whole thing.

How do other Atlas memebrs like Kalmbachs forum code compared to Atlas's?

I'm glad you were able to respond to the pleas for a better forum format. There seems to be a few bugs with error messages that I'm sure you'll work out.

The biggest problem I see right now is that the forum area isn't highlighted enough on the home page. I'm sure you would like to see the forum grow and become a dominant forum for model rail roaders. Right now you have to search for the word "forum". Of course for those who have been around for a while this isn't a big deal, but for newbies; many will miss the fact there is a forum here. Go look at the Atlas home page and you will see nice big bold letters that fools such as myself can even find directing us to their forum.[;)]

I know with your present new forum format activity will definitely increase. A stronger presence in forums will boost support for your mags I'm sure.

My first recommendation is don't do anything foolish like Atlas and Railroad-line and shut the forum down when (notice I didn't say "if") a nasty flame war erupts. Shutting a forum down only creates ill will and punishes the good as well as the bad. Reminds me of a boss who used to yell at us who were present at the meetings for those who missed critical meetings - the fool was yelling at the choir, not the absentees.

I look forward to many fruitful years of discussions with other modeler's and the occasional guest visit by those such as Andy S and Terry T and others - (Hey Melanie - you might have to be a moderator.... lol).[:)][8)][;)]
