Looking at the picture in the Feb issue I can see what you mean, as long as the joists allow for it as you say you can saw out the flat top board protecting the track with thick card.
You'd probably have to leave the outer joist in for strength and terminate the creek and road on the plan against it.
Maybe there is an oops admission coming up in part 3? Or is Dave saving up a clever solution.
Nice to see 4x8's treated as a serious modelling challenge for those with limited space.
Over here in the UK garden sheds (ours is 12x8) are often used as their isn't room inside and we don't get many basements over here, they'd probably fill up with rain in this green and pleasant = soggy land anyway!

After reading the first two articles on building STONEY CREEK, I do not understand how the flat top loop supports the bridge on the one side. I can imagine the cutouts to come to support the creek bed and the plaster or foam board to make the hills, but unless a chunk of already laid track and roadbed gets cut for the bridge, I don't see how it gets put in. Also, if it is a cutout, then the joist placements under the flattop are critical and that does not seem to be even described on the articles. Any insights?
