Yes; They typically appear in general railroad books.

Ben, what kind of timeline are you looking for? Examples: common locomotive, railraod names & mergers, freight or passenger car weight or type, etc.

Hi Ben,

Check out some of the articles in the Trains magazine section of this site. There are historical articles tracking most of the major railroads today back to all their parts (mergers, takeovers etc.)

I want to buy and detail equipment appropreat for the eara I want to model. So many advertizers say their models are prewar or post war, HELLO, there was TWO world wars. I just got the hang of USRA vs. AAR. I do not want to read a lot of text about this or that. I want to know when riveted cars became popler, when did truss rods get outlawed, arch bar trucks, when did the Nickle Plate and the Walbash go under and to whome? The ICC made many decisions that affected the railroads. What were they and when, and all of what you mentioned. This may seem like a lot, but railroads have only been around for less then 200 years. As we write there is a world wide effort to get more young people interested in trains. A timeline would go a long way to help these folks idenify where they want to focus. Ben

If you could narrow it down to a specific 5 year period, and one or two railroads, I will get the answers for you.

The NKP and Wabash merged into the N&W in 1964 - aka "The Merger", and it also included the P&WV, and the N&W got Pennsy's line from Columbus to Sandusky in Ohio.

My focus is the N&W from 1950 to 1955, with some cheating to 1960, and a couple of later locos that I ren at the club.
