During World War II troop cars would have been hauled by any locomotive active in the 1942-45 era, and that includes all sorts of steam and electric and early diesels -- meaning no F7s but FTs, no E8s but E3s and and E6s, and so on
After the war, the troop cars were often used in work train or other such service, or were converted into express cars, and some of them survived until quite recently. The last troop car movement I saw was in the 1980s -- true, the car was being moved to the Illinois Railroad Museum, but there it was and probably was pulled by SD40-2s or SD50s. With a little research (including a fine article in Model Railroader a year or two ago) there are all sorts of uses of these interesting cars.

I'd like to get a set of Microtrains new troop cars. I want to find out if anyone knows what engine hauled these cars? Was is steam or an early diesel model. Thanks. I'm brand new to the hobby.
