It's never too late to pick up model railroading. True...Those who start at an earlier age to have a few more years to enjoy the hobby, but those who start in the years after youth can still enjoy it just as much.[8D] I myself was basically born with an obsession for trains and model railroading, as I have been told. But, if it is something you are interested in, you'll quickly pick it all up, from history, to the lingo, techniques, and everything! When you get your trains set up around the tree, you should post some pictures for us.[;)]

TMCC Man:

The Phantom locomotive is $350, and the cars are $350 for the four. $700 overall. It is TMCC equipped. Lionel has not made them in a few years, so your best bet would be to search local shows if you can.

The S2 is an older one, it only has LocoSound. I have only had one chance to run a PS2 turbine, and it ran great.

Nope those are two MDC 2-6-0 RTR old-timers. They look good, but don't upll well up steep hills.

The tents are from a Lifelike campground scene. I got them at a dis*** store for around $7.

Bachman makes a 4-6-0 that looks a lot like that third pic, I'm thinking about picking one up just to have some steam to run with the Shay, even though the time period is off. Anything older than modern steam seems to be pretty hard to find.

If you believe The Polar Express you can have a GP helping a Mountain. The original consist had my Sierra helping, but the Sierra does not like to back up. The floor to ceiling canyon is to be the center piece but it still takes a lot of imagination to get around the river base boards and the wall paper. Here is another long range pic and one of the original consist. It looked better but did not run as well. I may never run the whole train again.

Okay so I went nuts and built two trains. Well, they are together with Kaydees and metal wheels, but they haven't been detail painted and weathered. So anyway there are 4 Overtons, an ore car, a cattle car, a box car and 3 cabeeses. Two aren't pictured as they made the tree. A Canadian National for my son. I couldn't find a Dixie. He'll either like it or he won't. It's a cool orange color. I can always paint it.

For me there is the G&D Drovers Caboose. The G&D a big ranch on the Great Divide owns all the cattle seen on the Rock Ridge and Train City. The caboose will fit right in.

Some nice stuff on page 2 guys. Art I've nver seen a shot of your layout where you show the to the floor mountain.

I decided to show some of my layout although I haven't worked on it for weeks. However, the room is coimg along nicely. If all goes well we'll be painting the backdrop, uh walls, by Christmas.

Nice pics people. I came into the possession of a coal train. My logging layout was not designed for this but I got it to work some. It took two engines to pull it up my grades and some of the track work that was good enough for a climax and three logging cars needed a little help but it runs sort of.

I needed a place to store the train so I finaly built a staging area just like you all said I would.



This has been a fun but unexpected addition.

Got a few more of the vehicles I've been assembling. This one is a Diamond Reo Tank Truck kit by WS. A bit easier than the Jordon kits but still frustrating at times. Lots of flashing to remove and quite a bit of fitting and triming parts before gluing. I spent most of today on this one and it still needs some touch up painting.

It was Christmas Open House today and most crews pulled primo assignments like the "Frontiersman" crack passenger train, or guest trains like the Superchief, and California Zephyr, strings of reefers full of christmas figgy pudding and egg-nog, loads of flat cars with Christmas trees and wreaths.... But everyone was not so lucky. The local packing plant still had to be serviced, so trundling along the back of skid row we go, with stock cars to be set out and then cleaned, and an empty flat car to pick up a rusted out steam boiler. The crack trains got all the good caboose. Well, at least the coal stove is close to everything and helps keep out the single digit temperatures.

In between bouts of Christmas shopping, I've been working on a trestle for a two track mainline over the Animas River. The last few pieces of track were ordered from Walthers via my LHS and supposed to be in Tuesday, but the holidays seem to have slowed things down, and until that track's laid I can't proceed with foam, so I thought I'd work on the bridges instead.

This is the jig I'm using to get the ties laid so the ends line up straight:



...and here I've got one of my son's Christmas presents doing some of the heavy lifting:



The rails are just sitting in place on the ties, unspiked, but I did finish laying the last of the ties earlier today. A little sanding, notch out the longitudinal braces, add the guard timbers and she's ready for paint.

Hi All,

A few weeks ago I added a new "Picture of the day" section to the front page of my Port Kelsey weblog. A new picture is added every morning (well, almost every morning) and will contain mostly railroad related pictures I have taken, and the occasional image from others.

I have found over the years that the sites that are the most interesting are ones that change often, and the addition of a picture of the day should help keep the blog fresh in interesting (I hope) I think it might be of interest to others too, have a peek....
