Kato, Athearn, Atlas, & Proto...
Posted by mbshaw on Wednesday, April 30, 2003 3:26 PM
I think there may have been a thread once before about this but I can't recall.

What are the positives and negatives Kato, Athearn, Atlas, and Proto locomotives. Personally each once has a pretty good amount of detail though I tend to lean more towards Kato and Atlas being the best with Proto following close behind. Athearn is less expensive but I haven't bought any of the newer releases (the retooled and repowered versions). What are your thoughts and experiences.

I model the Soo/CP and Chessie/CSX. I am currently converting everything to DCC. The Atlas is easy. The Kato and Proto are almost just as easy, i.e. I have to install the chip. Not sure about the Athearn equipment though.

I would like to purchase some more locos but want to make sure I am heading down the right path.

Anyone interested in doing some custom painting and detailing?

Thanks for your thoughts.

I would be interested in your offer for painting and detailing. I have a couple of Kato SD-40-2 SOO's that I would like to have detailed out with working ditch light and strobe. I know its a lot of work but I figure it's worth it. Email me mbshaw77@earthlink.net.
