Has anyone had any experience with non-Spectrum Bachmann steam engines?

My experince with the Spectrum stuff, both HO and On30 is that is runs great and looks good. The track is perfect for what you are up to. It is ok for a permanant setup, but perfect for under a tree.
If you think you have it right, your standards are too low. my photos http://s12.photobucket.com/albums/a235/ARTHILL/ Art

I have a couple of Bachmann steam engines and they run smooth and quiet. However they are both Spectrum series so I don't know about the standard ones. Ken

For your first question yes EZ track is perfect for a floor display and should not need pinning.
as to your other questions I just don't know but I'm sure some one else will.
once again welcome.

The Bachmann EZ track would be a great pick for under the tree, as it locks together and the plastic roadbed will keep out carpet and other dust from the train mechanisms. It won't need any fastening down.

This track is already 18" radius, which is the minimum of most model trains these days. Most of the newer Bachmann steam engines do work great, although there are the occasional ones that slip through their quality control.

Have fun!

Hello all!

I'm new to this forum. I used to do some model railroading when I was a child, but it's been over a decade since I've touched them. I'm trying to make a simple layout to go around my Christmas tree.

Is Bachmann EZ Track made for this purpose? Will it snap together with no need for pinning it down?

Also, I'm interested in a Bachmann Prairie 2-6-2.

Do the Bachmann steam locomotives run smoothly, or are they really jerky and noisy (like those awful Bachmann diesel starter trains)?

One more question. What do you think the smallest radius turn is that this locomotive could make? I'm looking at 18" radius tracks.

Thanks in advance for your responses!
