The short cars of the 1950's were to turn on an 18" radius. 85' cars look "funny" and may not run well on the tight turns you can put in a bedroom layout.

Jim....it's another Model RR chatline type forum.....wwww.trainboard.com, that Curt posted up the very same question on.
It's not bad, does a lot of prototype railfan type stuff...check it out, and join, there's often some good stuff there....best regards
Mike

Excellent and much appreciated. I have some cars that are 10" long, so i'll use those to test the radius. Thanks, curt

I would appreciate it if someone would measure an Athearn HO "shorty" passenger car. I'm working on a track plan, and need to figure what my minimum radius should be with these cars. I'll build a temporary track on a piece of blue foamboard and see how that length car looks on various radius curves. I don't presently have any Athearn, but i'm sure i have some other brands that length. Thanks for the help, curt
