MTH Electric Trains

I currently have Lionel O-27 Gauge Trains. Lately I have seen some MTH Pennsylvania Rail King locomotives that I would like to add to my collection. What I would like to know is that if I buy one of these locomotives will I have to change my existing track or buy new track all together. Someone has told me these locomotives are O-47 gauge. I am looking at purchasing the Rail King Mikado 2-8-2 or the Rail King M1a 4-8-2. Thank you.

I believe the Rail King Mikado is designed for track curves of a minumim diameter of 42"(042). Your Lionel set has track with a diameter of 27"(027). These larger engines will most probably have difficulties operating on the tight curves you have in the lionel set. Your existing straight tracks will be fine. You will need to replace your 027 curves with 042 or larger radius curves to operate these larger MTH engines.
