I model the Burlington Northern also and last Christmas I got 2 great coffee table books with great photos and history on the BN.

They were great gifts and can be found under Amazon.com or EBAY at times.

Just put in key word Burlington Northern.

At the hobbyshop, check out the ConCor HO Pioneer Zephyr trainset or the Kato N California Zephyr. Kato sells a ABA set of Burlingon F's to pull the train. I saw it at a recent Whistlestop weekend. Both make very nice models.

IF Historical Rail's web site is not satisfactory, their phone number is 800-261-5922 for "human interface" and perhaps getting a copy of their Holiday 2005 catalog. Good hunting, I know he will love what ever you and Santa pick out for him.

Kalmbach Publishing I believe has a Book titles something like 25 Years of BN Motive Power. It would probablyb e a good read for him if he doesn't have it. Also an ABBA set of F-9s in BN from Stewart Hobbies would be a good present. They don't have numbers so if he has a set, he can make them different from ones he already has.

Mister Beasley has the right idea. The local hobby shop might aready be familiar with your husband's wish list, but the few extra details of his interests would assist - BN, historical items, or even a coffee table book ...
Have fun shopping

now, what to get my wife?... hmm, she like's scrapbooking, a-ha - EBAY!

cheers, krump

My wife tried the hobby shop trick. Found that I had a certain locomotive on order and it came in. The owner had ordered 2 of them one for me one for stock. She purchased the one for stock and I had 2.
Another year she went to said Hobby shop and found that I had ordered something and intercepted it when it came in. I hadn't paid for it yet she did and MERRY CHRISTMAS.

Another good place to check is Historic Rail. They have all manner of signs, posters, coffee mugs, videos and DVDs, etc. for nearly every railroad in the country.

Their web site is at http://www.historicrail.com

Does he have a favorite train shop nearby? You might drop by and introduce yourself. If they recognize the name, they might have a suggestion.

Well, I don't know about a poster but I have found the "Burlington Northern 1977-80 Annual" to be very useful for incarnations of loco paint jobs. This one is unique because it has a picture of all the last locomotives painted in each of the merger railroads. There have to be similar books with the more recent paint schemes. The "Burlington Northern Santa Fe 1994 Annual" by Robert C. Del Crosso is a little heavy on "snow plows" but has the complete BN locomotive roster (with pictures) going into the Santa Fe merger.

QUOTE: Where would I get it?
The first book I mentioned would be long out of print so you would have to hit e-bay or go to a collector type book store like the "Tattered Cover". They even do book searches. The more recent books may still be in print.

I just got my Holiday catalog from "Historic Rail". They have a web site http://www.HistoricRail.com They don't have mass quantities of BN stuff, but some and plenty for the ones that became the BN.

He would love anything he got especially if it were a true surprise. Odds are he has a secrete wish list of a couple of things. If you could discover one of those it would be good also. My wife has surprised me a couple of times and those are precious gifts and memories.

Christmas Gift for Husband
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, November 13, 2005 1:18 PM
Hello All! My husband enjoys modeling w/both HO and N scale trains. For Christmas I would like to get him something that is particular to his favorite railroad company, Burlington Northern. I was thinking maybe a poster w/all the different incarnations of the BN engine paint jobs, does something like that exsist? Where would I get it?

Another idea I had was to get something vintage, particular to BN. Any ideas?

Thanks for all your help, I look forward to your responses.
