Southern Railway Brass Headlight Eagle
Posted by Locojunkie on Wednesday, April 2, 2003 6:31 PM
Does anyone know where I can find a Brass Eagle Detail part to mount on the headlight of one Of my Southern Railway Steam locomotives. And Does anyone know why or where there are pictures with locomotives that had these eagles on them. Thank you.

Hello "Locojunkie,"

When I was in college I did custom painting for extra money, and the PFM model of the Southern Ps-4 Pacific was one of my specialties. I did a couple with eagles, using die-cast pigeons from Campbell's Weston figure line painted with Floquil Brass paint. The pigeors are really a bit oversized for HO scale, so they made quite respectable eagles!

The eagles were an extra decoration that some Southern Ry. engineers mounted on their assigned engines. The "MODEL RAILROADER Cyclopedia, Volume 1: Steam Locomotives," has photos of Ps-4s with eagles on pages 154 and 156.

Good luck,

Andy
