difference between athearn blue box,kits

i have seen some athearn HO scale locomotive kits. are they similar to b-b's -you have to apply number boards, handrails or is there more to assemble? i know you could save some green[tup] by buying kits instead of rtr.
also do the kits use the same motors as other athearns?

I don't think they use the same motor, I like the blue box kits because there not finished. That leaves me all the detail work to do. The prices are way cheaper!! you can pick em up on eBay for a steal most of the time
Pay attention to what you read here, you may actually answer someone's question!

Unless horizon comes back out with the blue box kits, will not be able to afford many new locomotives. So please Horizon. Kits of the RTR locos please.
