Brooman Runs an Alco!!
Posted by davekelly on Tuesday, November 1, 2005 10:33 AM
A while back, one of the threads was discussing Eric Brooman moving the motive power on the Utah Belt to GE units after a very long relationship with EMD. I and several people discussed whether or not Eric has any running Alcos.

Well ................. I just got the 2006 Great Model Railroads and there ......... on page 14 is ....................... AN ALCO!!! OK. it's running on the Southern San Pedro, a short line that interchanges with the Utah Belt, but ITS AN ALCO!!! That Brooman guy is OK in my book!!

Looks like Eric's been reading our threads! Think about it, he's had his layout featured in MRR magazine, so naturally one would assume he may visit the MRR website.

You never know........many times on the bottom of these pages we'll see "Guests" that are visting our forum. Perhaps Eric "Mosied-on-by" for a bit.[C):-)][C):-)]

He's been running Alcos on the SSP for years, including on the earlier layouts. It made me chuckle when people were raving about the incursion of GEs into his "all-EMD" layout. I don't think the layout's ever been "all-EMD". The UB, yes ... the layout, no.

Jon,

It's still nice to see an Alco on Eric's beautiful layout!

I knew he was alright, even though I almost started a flamewar over it!

Eric has always been an Alco fan, at least as far back as 1973-1975. According to one of the first articles (the first?) on the UB (1978 RMC) he lamented having to give up his Alcos in order to give his locomotive roster a more realistic (consistent) feel. That's where the all EMD fleet came in. He did note that he was keeping one Alco for the SSP.
