Anybody got GMR 2006 yet?
Posted by ozzy01 on Monday, October 24, 2005 1:15 PM
Anybody else got GMR 2006. Got mine friday and haven't seen any post about it yet. Good issue from cover to cover. I'd like to hear other opinions about it.

Yep, got mine late last week. Compares with issues of the past, not any better and not any worse. I am getting tired of Utah Belt articles.

I don't have mine, yet, and I would appreciate it if everyone would refrain from discussing it at length. I don't want to have pre-conceived ideas about it until I have the opportunity to decide for myself if I like it.

Sorry if I sound grouchy about this. I look forward to every magazine issue I get, and when they are discussed at length before I have my copy, it takes away some of the enjoyment I get from reading it myself.

Many times, people criticize part or all of an issue. When I get my copy and read it, I often can't understand what the criticism is all about. Do we really need to subscribe to a magazine just so we can have something to complain about? If you have a valid complaint, it needs to be addressed to the publisher. Let me make up my own mind about whether or not I like something. If I don't like it, my complaint will go to the proper person.

Thanks. I appreciate your restraint.

I forgot to preorder mine, so I am going to pick it up at the Local Hobby shop. Problem is, my hobby shop is an hours drive away, and I Probably won't be getting there for a few weeks. But, I am really looking forward to the Utah Belt Cover story.

Got mine late last week. About the same as previous issues of GMR.
Great photos of the new Utah Belt. Never get tired of the Utah Belt articles.

Betcha I can beat you at being last! I think half the postal workers in this town are closet model railroaders, based on when I get me current issue!

I got mine last week, and still haven't gotten the chance to sit down and read it all. It looks good from the flip through. I read the Utah Belt article first thing, because those are always good reads.[8D]

i understand completely . since i don't subscribe , and i live in canada , it's at least a couple of weeks between when US subscribers start posting about an issue and when i get it . i found that reading the threads first colored my perception of the articles in the mag , so i don't read them anymore . if i can still find the thread after i've looked at the mag i'll read it , but there's enough going on here that i don't bother actively looking for it

Re the Sippin' Society figure 2....Why I love big curves! Even at 80"radius (almost 10 degrees of curvature) that is a beautiful sight. I have gone Free-mo and although our mainline minimum radius is 48" I have 1 module in process that is a 45 degree actual bend with easements that is 72" radius and even my 85' passenger cars and E7's just flow along it. Before I go any farther with it I am going to add a wee bit of superelevation.

I live in Canada and got mine last week, I believe they ship at the same time wether you live in the US or elsewhere. Great once again, and always enjoy the Utah Belt articles.

Mine came yesterday. Have done a quick scan and read a couple of the layout articles. Looks pretty good.
Enjoy

Enjoyed, it. Tired of seeing UB articles though. I liked Matt Snell's CR New Jersey Divsion, best. I have a soft spot for Big Blue and have worked some of the locations on his layout, and sat in some of the sidings.

I understand what you're saying. I usually get MR a few days later than everybody else, least it seems that way. People on the forums already discussing it, sometimes it feels as though you read the issue and haven't even gotten it yet. Thanx for the opinions so far.

If you don't want to know about it than don't read posts about it. That seems like a pretty simple solution. I personally liked the Conrail New Jersey Division. The Oak Island Yard impressed with its size. Gives me something to try and accomplish someday. I do prefer more of a linear layout though as Jim Kelly talked about in his article. Eric Brooman does a good job with that. I am impressed with how he has changed his layout to keep it in current time period over the years. A lot of work because once you think you might a great fleet of locomotives and cars they are out of date. Also liked Jay Polk's MoPac and Bruce Petty's SP because they created systems that allow them to run their layout prototipically with just one operator. The rest of the layouts were also great.

Just got it today - what a GREAT issue! I think this is my favorite GMR yet.

I must say, I am a huge fan of the Utah Belt, but was there any new piece of information in that article since the last Utah Belt MR cover story? I can never get enough, but seriously, it seemed like a repeat of the December 2003 article (which, by the way, was the very issue that got me back into this hobby of ours after a 10 or so year absence).

Aside from that, lots of great articles. I love seeing high quality 2-rail O scale layouts for some reason. 2 rail O is just the coolest.
