Here's what I did. I used Microsoft Excel and created a simple spreadsheet using the first row as my column headers labeled manufacturer, manufacturer's stock no., type of equipment, road name, road number, date aquired, and price paid. Then as you aquire an item just list it on the next row. You can sort the colums individually to show for example all 40-ft boxcars and you can add, delete, or re-arrange columns to meet your needs. You don't really need a full-featured database to keep a simple inventory list. Hope this helps.

Short of creating your own with something like MS Access, you might try Railfan Express. You can visit their web site at: http://www.scotware.net/

Here is an excerpt from their description page.

"Railfan Express (Win 3.1& 9x/2k/ME/XP) (formerly TrainTrax for Windows)
An inventory program for the model railroader. You can record up to 16 fields on each model (model information, prototype information and notes). Although designed primarily to catalog model railroad rolling stock, you can also record information on the buildings, vehicles and other non-railroad models that are on your layout. Then view or print lists based on the model railroad, model category, scale, or model manufacturer. Keep track of the value of your model railroad, print insurance reports by category and print insurance summary reports for the value of the entire model railroad collection."

I have not tried this as I use Access, but I think that the price is right. $20 shareware I believe.

Does any one know of a program that you can
inventory your Railroad Engines and rolling
stock. My biggest reason for inventory is so
that there is no double purchasing of items.
So you can carry a list if you are Hobby
Shopping or going to a Train Show. Thanks
