Oh would you all shut up about coffee. We already have a coffee shop! Take this talk over there. Now all we need is a Starbucks. [:D] Just kidding! Scott, congrats on your first...ooops, sorry! [EDIT MODE]second win. Now that I know your eBay name, I WILL follow you around, outbidding YOU on everything YOU bid on. Even if it IS N Scale, I will just resell it, and cancel out your bid when i see it!

Freak, don't let anyone rag on ya about your new train, dude! As long as YOU like it, that's all that matters! I have plenty of stuff on my layout that ain't prototypical, but what the heck! I like it! [:D]

But, that PRR fantasy scheme is pretty sharp.

Please...that's your opinion, not mine. The prices on these things soar whenever I see them on eBay. The single motor models go for at least $50, everytime, and the double motor 16 wheel drives...This is the first one I have been able to afford. Sure, I can easily name a dozen locos that run better, for cheaper, but none of them I want as much as this. If it doesn't run how I want it to, I can change that with some work. I have had good luck with Bachmann, and am very happy with their products for the most part. I'm sure that I could get my new PRR DD40AX up to whatever standards I want it, if it isn't already within them. [^]

Burst my bubble? Nope, sorry, not here. This will be one of the locomotives in my own Heritage fleet, which includes my CSX Turbine.[:D]

Congrats! Yes, eBay can be addicting, but that's not always a bad thing...I have an eBay Store with an average of ~300 items listed. It's fun and profitable at the same time. [:D] Couldn't ask for a better part-time job.

That's the way I see it.[8D] It will be a valued addition to my collection, whether it is truely worth its dollar value or not. I feel that it is worth more than what I paid for it, because it holds to my interests, and my styling. BIGGER IS BETTER.[:p]

Stuckarmchairing, next time you feel like saying something like that, could you not, please? It's not really that nice to tell someone that a new thing they got and are excited about is a piece of crud and name everything that's better, but I forgive you anyway.[:)]

Nice touch, Stuckarmchairing.[V]

The B-mann stuff has always had some problems and often can be improved with a little work, especially the motor, gears and bearings.

I have an OLD N scale DD40AX that runs okay, but doesn't pull worth s***! Old single motor drive. Bought it because I LIKE them! Doesn't fit my 1950's era, but I don't care. I'd like to buy another one just so I can double-head these beasties, but every time one comes up on eBay, the price goes WAY UP! I can't justify the expense for what amounts to a fantasy for my layout.

If you don't already have one, get an issue of Model Railroading (not Model RailroadER!). Almost every issue has an article on loco performance tune-ups. Follow the general directions for cleaning, lubrication, etc. and that should improve your loco's performance.

Face it, Bachmanns are never going to run as smoothly as Katos, so accept the limitations and enjoy the heck out of your new loco. DD40AXes are beautiful brutes, regardless of the paint scheme.

And don't let smarta$$es like me and Lotus put you off! It's YOUR layout! Run whatever darn well pleases YOU and have fun! [:D] [:D] [:D]

[#ditto][#ditto] And as a word of caution,I am advising this VERY EXTREEMLY!!!,DO NOT purchase items from Ebay seller "JTEN1". I have been receiving a few replies from others whom have purchased stuff from him,and have gotten ripped off,not only by the price, but as well as the item(s),pieces missing, parts broken, etc. This seller is a swindler,a hustler, and demands that "payment be sent the next day or else". I do not want to see you or anyone else getting hurt by this seller.Use caution, and read those feedbacks. If anyone is interested in why I am saying this, please contact me off the list at my email.[sigh]

Not sure I can agree about poor running - I have one of those that behaves pretty well, it's a little noisy but not too bad, and it runs smoothly enough. They do need a little more servicing than single-motor locos as the two motors aren't mechanically linked, so they can come out of sync and cause problems - mine has definite "sweet spots" in its speed range where both motors are turning at exactly the same speed. Planning to strip it down, clean all the gunge out, clean the commutators, reassemble and relube, to see if that cures it.
