For HOn2 1/2 (also HOn30) check out this site http://www.hon30.org/
HOn30 uses N gauge track so you can kitbash N scale engines using the running gear and modifying the superstructure.
Enjoy

HOn3 Stuff:

Locos: Currently only Brass is available: Newer lines include: PSC, Division Point older stuff includes: United, PFM, Balboa, Sunset, Westside, Key etc Check out Blackstone models for a less expensive K-27 (DCC, Sound equiped), PSC is also coming out with a less expensive K as well. Both are due out early to mid next year.

Cars: Grandt Line, Rail LIne, Labelle, Trout Creek, Rio Grande Models etc are all plastic/wood kits. There are also many brass cars from a variety of manufacturers. There are are some manufacturers working on plastic RTR cars as well

Track: Shinohara makes a line of HOn3 code 70 track and switches.

Structures: There are quite a few manufacturers if you are looking for DRG&W or RGS prototypes. Mostly finescale kits of most of the signature buildings along these Colorado lines. Banta, Crystal River etc.....

For HOn30, a good place to try is Train & Trooper in Maine. They specialize in equipment for Maine narrow gauge railroading. They'd be one of the hobby shops most likely to know what is available for you. They have a large list of models and kits, including brass, for both HOn30 and HOn3 modeling. They carry new and used books about the Maine two footers as well.

An e-mail address and phone and fax numbers are on their website. Their URL is: trainandtrooper.com

The folks at Train & Trooper are also on the planning committee for the National Narrow Gauge convention for 2007, which will be held in Portland, Maine. One of the area attractions in Portland is the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad Company & Museum, which runs short trips on their property using equipment from the original Maine two foot railroads. There will also likely be trips arranged to both the Sandy River & Rangely Lakes Railroad Museum and the Wiscasset, Waterville & Farmington Railroad Museum. Both of the latter organizations are rebuilding two foot gauge operations on portions of their original rights of way. All three of these museums have interesting websites, by the way. That convention would definitely an event to think about attending.

There is also a periodical called Maine 2 Foot Quarterly. Edited by Gary Kohler, it contains articles, product reviews and advertising sure to be useful to someone newly interested in HOn30. There's a website for them at maine2footquarterly.com

There's a very active HOn30 group on Yahoo groups. They can also help you get started. Look for the term HOn30 on the Yahoo groups page. Other Yahoo groups of interest are those with the titles MaineTwoFooters and Maine2footquarterly

Also try www.caboosehobbies.com They are in Denver and have some interesting Colorado narrow gage stuff.I notice they have some HOn3 locomotives from a new company called Blackstone Models. I am leaving HOn30 for HOn3 because HOn3 has more variety and takes less tinkering.

HOn3 Yahoo List
Posted by mlehman on Tuesday, October 4, 2005 6:55 PM
If you're interested in HOn3, then check out the HOn3 Yahoo list at:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HOn3/

However, if you want to ask whether you should do HOn3 or HOn30, then you'll just start a very old thread that will end inconclusively.
;)

There is a HOn30 list somewhere, but I've heard they been through some changes. Maybe someone else can help with that.

There is a bunch of new RTR locos and rolling stock coming out in HOn3, mostly, but not exclusively Colorado prototypes. The selection of kits grows every year. And everything that is off the track is plain old HO, the scale with the widest selection of model stuff of all kinds available.

I suggest asking on-list for pointers about specific HOn3 stuff you might be interested in. Many of the manfacturers and dealers are either on the list or lurk there, so you'll get advice from both consumers and those interested in selling.

I've had good luck dealing with both Trackside Emporium in Chama, NM and Link 'n Pin in Las Vegas, NV for NG stuff, but I use my regular train pusher for most things. Anything in the Walthers catalog is easily available, if it's in stock. If you need something out of production, search HOn3 on Ebay.

And as has already been mentioned, the NG&SL Gazette is your NG bible, although there are a variety of fine publications out there, as was also noted.

Best would be to pick up Narrow Gauge & Short Line Gazette, here's a few sites:
www.i.sng.com
www.backwoodsminiatures.com
www.troutcreekeng.com

This will give you plenty of other sites also

Hope it helps,
