As far as your insight in Tony's selling soundtrax cheap - that is where I got the one for my Shay - I think the total cost including shipping was 66.00. I have bought three Soundtrax decoders in the last several weeks. Can't wait to see how the Tsunami actually pans out.

I'm looking forward to seeing er hearing that one too, as well as the digitrax offering.. Now if we could get Bose to offer a one inch speaker with a nice sound tunnel that would fit in the shay, THAT would be the ticket... The steam chuff would Really bark then..

The layout room seems kind of empty when I run a non-sound engine anymore.. That is except for my BB athearns.. Wood ties on wood roadbed on a plywood base.. Really rumbles!!

What I had in mind for rolling stock is shorty passenger cars.. MDC made some several years back (overton), may still be available.. I know Mantua and Concor use to make them as well (perhaps concor still does).. -OR- several years ago I remember seeing an article in MR where the author had put an entrance door on a gondola and seating inside for an open air type thing...

It's all about the fun.. Are we having any yet??

I don't know what you cash situation looks like (don't need to either) but Tony's is selling soundtraxx decoders at $60 per... Probably to make room for the next generation units at soundtraxx.. If I remember correctly they are drop shipped From soundtraxx. Odd thing is, people on Ebay are asking near full retail for them (and will probably get it too)...

How about getting some old time passenger cars and using it to pull an excursion train?? T hat's the excuse a lot of people use to run steam on a modern era layout, as if one is really needed [8D]....

John T - I write this as I wipe tears of graditute from my bloodshot eyes. An Honor sir it would be however I have grown quite fond of the little fellow and would miss him terrribly if he were to be "Leased Out". Of course maybe Kalmbach might see fit to give me a free subscription or something for being such a nice guy???? Hmmmmm?

With that said? What is an OMRS? A club layout I assume?

It must be contagious! I just bought me the 3 trk shay and put the soundtrax decoder in last week. Now I need to build a RR to run it on. Doesn't really fit in the current layout. Thinking of adding a small logging or coal diorama along side of the current layout (someday). But for now it sits on the siding and chugs away.

Sounds like it sound cool if indeed it does sound like you say it sounds...

I'm all for the more modern stuff, but just to be the cheap skate, tight wad, I am, I took an old door buzzer, changed the pitch on it a bit, rigged up a push button, mounted it all under my layout and now I've got a manually activated "Nhaat, Nhaat" sound like that of an F-7 diesel blazzing through.

i installed a soundtraxx decoder in my bachmann HO spectrum shay today . sounds cool [:D] and the installation wasn't too hard although i was a little nervous about drilling the holes for the speaker wires . the soldering doesn't bother me as i've built many electronic kits in past hobbies . so to anyone who's been afraid to tackle this project ... it's not too hard and the instructions are pretty good (better photos might have been nice)
