How old are you, and what scale do you model ?...

28..... HO. Got my first set when I was 7. Had a 4x8 between 10-14. Gave it away to my neighbor who was dying of cancer when I turned 14 and started playing football..etc. Just started back up this march and I'm currently in applicant status for a large HO club. Started to build a 2x12 switching layout but gave it up so I could learn techniques at the club. Now I'm just hunting down old Blue Boxes on Ebay and putting them together.

I'm 30. Been model rail roading since I was 13. Dad and I discovered the hobby together.

Still to this day, he comes over and plays with the layout. There truly is NO better hobby.

71 this month, model in HO. Started with Lionel "027" when in high school. After High school, joined the Navy, 2yrs on land and 2 yrs on a Mine Sweeper. 2nd Class ET. while I was in the service my parents moved 2 times. Don't know what happened to the Lionel trains. Early 60's started in HO, 5 x 9 foot layout. A friend got me started racing stock cars, for about 5 years, then got busy with work, family, and cars (not racing) just fixing. The Model RR got put aside until spring of 1998, when my son took me to a Model Train Show, (he belongs to a Modular Club). The club was using Digitrax DCC, and I had my first chance to run with DCC and it rekindled my interest in the Model RR, came home and had to find the layout under all the stuff piled on it, and have been working on it since then, a little at a time. Also Built a 4 x 8 layout for two of my Grand Sons, (8 and 10 at the time). They were both interested then but the older one has discovered lawn Tractors and Cars, (things with engines that you can ride & drive) and doesn't have any time for the railroad any more. The younger one has discovered the PlayStation, and that is what interests him now.
I have just replaced my Brass track with Nickel Silver, and Have hooked up my Empire Builder and now working on the Yard section.

I'm 66, getting back into hobby since leaving it when I was 14. I am modeling HO gauge, mostly steam, as this is what I saw from the time I was 2 until I was 16. Building 4 4x8 tables now.

I'm 42 yrs old, and have been in HO since my Dad helped me build my first layout when I was six. Every couple of days he would bring home a few sections of track and we would add them, until we had a loop. It was great.

67 and counting! HO is the primary pike - started and completed in 2004. Have an O-gauge shelf system for the Lionel Polar Express and a new S-gauge layout still under construction.

I'm 49 and I model in On30 and HO. My railroads are mostly freelanced based on plausible prototypes for the era and area I'm modeling. I model a turn of the century narrow gauge logging,shortline, backwoods type eastern railroad in On30 and early 1900s backwoods/shortline in HO. I love steam, wooden structures and rolling stock, timber trestles and bridges but also have a few deisels and gas critters. I started with Lionel in the early 60s. It may have been out of scale tinplate but it ran very well! I then went into HO and got discouraged with the low quality equipment available at the time (brass track on fiber ties, Tyco, etc.) and gave up model railroading for a while. I then dabbled in N scale. The N scale equipment at that time (circa 1973) did not look good or run well. Those large flanges were hideous. I went back into HO and discovered Atlas NS track, Athern and MDC kits, and other good quality products that looked good and ran well. I then got the narrow gauge bug and tried HOn3, Sn3, and On3. HOn3 didn't run well and Sn3 and On3 were (and still are) incredibly expensive. When Bachmann came out with their On30 line of equipment, I immediately switched to On30. Since it runs on HO track, I can have the best of both worlds; the heft and detailing of O scale with the cost and convenience of HO and additionally, I can still model in HO and take advantage of the abundance of great and low cost products available in that scale.
