I am not looking to find out how the target was bolted to the vertical shaft. If you look at the top of the switch stand, you will see the lever and gear; this mates to nother gear that is attached to the shaft that the target is attached to. I am trying to understand if the target shaft is at the point end or the frog end of the switch stand.
Sorry for any confusion.

What I meant to say was, it didn't matter which way the "face" was bolted to the stand. If you saw the red and white target the switch was lined for other than the main track. If lined for the main the small green target is what you saw and the handle was lined the with the points.

Hi, I worked in Montana for the Milwaukee as an engineer and I don't think which way the "face" of the target was facing. On the mainline if the switch is lined for the main all you would see from a distance is the small green diamond shaped target above the red and white one anywaqy. i do remember though, that with the gearing on the switches the handle was always facing the direction the points were lined. These really helped when the tracks were covered with snow. Does that help?

I am installing the above switch stands on my Milwaukee Road HO layout. Since it is at least a 50 mile drive to find a Milwaukee switch stand, I have this question. Does the 'target' face the points or the frog end of the turnout? I realize that it makes no difference mechanically, but i want to make sure I am following correct Milwaukee practice.
