Willy is timeless and the play ran in the Fifties as I recall. The shoe seems to fit, what an interesting memory trigger. What about grey flannel suits, can we spot any of those as well?

Ever since I got my copy of Modelling Railroads of the 1950s the picture on page 67 accompanying Lou Stassi's article "Kicking the Tires" was bugging me for some reason I couldn't put my finger on.
Then this morning I realized what it was, the model of the man carrying a suitcase and a brief case (sample case?) resembles some of the early posters for Arthur Miller's
Death of a Salesman
. Of course, if it was true to the play, Lowman would have been dead by the transition era, but he did ride all the railroads of the US northeast, specially New York to Boston.
Wonder if that was the inspiration for the manufacturer or just a coincidence?
