Atlas produces a few classics like the trackside shanty, interlocking tower and others, and AM Models makes a very diverse line of small buildings--shacks, garages, yard offices, small freight stations and other very handy small buildings. The DPM free-standing building kits sound ideal for what you want, though.

American Model Builders (http://www.laserkit.com/laserkit.htm) makes some nice lineside buildings that go together very nicely. I have their Interlocking tower, boxcar depot, and Dill's Market on my layout. If you want, you can see pics of them in my link below. Often Walthers or Internet Hobbies has them on discount.

I'm looking for trackside buildings and wall buildings 4-5 inches wide 4-8 inches long.

I like NS but CSX has the B&O.

Even some of the DPM storfront and city building are quite small. I'm building in my city area using those and filling in spaces with Woodland scenics buildings (they'll fit anywhere!) But I'd agree with the two previous posts, We need a little more info on what 'small buildings' you're actually looking for.

Depending on what you skill level is, Campbell makes a lot of small structures that are great looking but require some skill and a fair amount of time and patience. Check out Walthers conerstone series for good plastic buildings, or Atlas or Bachman if cost is a big issue to you. I would suggest getting a Walthers book which lists tons of manufactures buildings with their sizes (foot print)

What kind of buildings? Railroad buildings? Commercial buildings? Residential buildings? Airport buildings? Logging buildings? Seashore buildings, etc.?

There must be hundreds of different ones out there. Check Woodland Scenics, they make a line of small structures. You should be able to find a listing on the Walthers website. Then do a search on structures, there should be hundreds of examples on the site.
