06Archerd, is there a particular railroad paint scheme you would like the unit in?
If this helps:
A number of the guys here can point you to reputable discount hobby shops that might have these units.
I monitor Ebay regularly and have purchased several locomotives on it. . In the past year I have seen
many
HO Proto 2000 SD7s and SD9 come and go. Most are brand new and come in various railroad paint schemes. These units already come with very nice, basic details. (air hoses, drop steps, lift rings, etc.)
Additional detailing would depend upon the railroad that you're unit represents.
(For example, some railroads used firecracker antennas, others used the flat type. Horns varied from road to road. Headlights are another item----Southern Pacific hood locomotives could have as many as 7 different lights on the front end! )
For photos of details, check out www.railpictures.net a very good source.
One more thing........be aware that if you buy a new P2K SD9 or SD7, it's likely been sitting on the shelf for a few years, so give it a good inspection and break it in gently on the layout.
Cheers.
