Yeah I know all that, but the trucks on the new EMDs are different as well as the gas tank. I just think it would be sick to be running something that looks like a long E9 with modern trucks and fuel tank, as well as all the fans and grills updated too. Oh, and then the new H3 BNSF lettering.

Again, why bother? There are excellent F units available that I doubt one could improve much upon - check out the Athearn Genesis F units or the Intermountain Fs. As for E units, there's the good looking and excellent running E-8/9 from LifeLike Proto 2000 and they're a bargain. LifeLike Proto 2000 is not the same LifeLike of the days of yore.

Your going to put a 4 wheel unit on a 6 wheel frame? Try using a E unit, it will be a little closer. And really whats the point? A normal E unit wont look much different than a E unit on a different base. Your essentially streching a F unit into a E unit.

Hi y'all, I just got back into model railroading, and had never paid attention to the more recent EMD models out. I don't really like the way they look that much compared to the GE ones, but I've always loved the old F and E units, so I'm thinking of modifying an F unit shell and putting it on like an SD70M frame. Any ideas on where to start? And also like has anyone done something like this before and have an article on it.
