I've got that one on tape! it's called the Railroder. Pretty amazing footage taken from across Canada and you wouldn't believe what can be stuffed into to storage locker on one of those speeders!

Three of my favorites, beside that preceeding, are:

1) Von Ryan's Express
2) Journey of Natty Gaan
3) The grey Fox, A story of Bill Miner, one of the last train robbers. Filmed in the Interior of British Columbia.

That would be "The Train" and "Emporor of the North".

Lot of great movies - Emperor of the North, etc. - but I'll take Danger Lights. Too bad it's hard to find - the video (I forget if it was Video Rails or ??) that's out there of it
is a "railfan edit" where someone took out all the scenes that don't have trains in it, so the story makes no sense.

BTW Buster Keaton loved trains, was a model railroader. He did a short movie for the Canadian gov't in the sixties where he takes a Fairmont speeder across Canada, was pretty good.

I watched "Train Quest" yesterday, ( Hallmark Channel, Comcast Video on Demand ). It's about an evil hobby store owner, ( we've all known one of those! [;)] ) who shrinks the boy that works for the store, and his girlfriend, and places them on his layout, to release one of the figures from the layout. Kinda goofy, but was a fun show to watch!

Petticoat Junction.

What I would have given to be in that water tower at the start of the show! [}:)]

Just for the record, I first saw "The General " on television ( and not a tiny little round one either!), but in many ways, I wi***hat I could've seen it in a theatre when it was first released. I do remember steam in the early '50's. As a child, I lived near the TH&B station in Hamilton, Ontario: I still remember running outside to see one of the new diesels pass, not realizing at the time that much more than a single locomotive was passing.
They say that with age comes wisdom, but at 58, I'm still waiting.

Breakheart Pass with Charles Bronson - one of this movie's highlights is when the last three cars (the two troop boxcars and the caboose ) break loose from the train, rolls backwards for about two miles and goes over a cliff killing the troops during a spectacular wreck at the same time.

Also the Great Locomotive Chase with Fess Parker - one of this movie's highlights is the actual chase between locomotives Texas and General on the Western and Atlantic during the Civil War in Georgia

A lot of good choices, but I'm surprised that no one remembers Buster Keaton in a silent movie called (I think) the General. It's set during the American Civil War and the entire movie is trains, start to finish. Lots of action, a chase scene that lasts almost the entire length of the movie and a big train wreck. Real trains and some pretty amazing stunts, especially by Keaton. The movie was done in the '20's, but the camera work is steady: even if you're not a fan of silent movies, it's well worth seeing. Probably available at most video rental outlets.

A "very good" movie - even if it is silent!... I've always liked Buster Keaton.

For an animated movie "Polar Express" was enjoyable, but it sure was different. Those animated trains can do things a "prototype" never would. Tremendous in IMAX.

I have always enjoyed "Union Pacific".

Kirk Douglas and Burt Landcaster in "Tough Guys". They steal a train and cruise it over the Mexican border.

Danger Lights. Classic early 1930's RR flic with some of the best effects (using real locomotives, not models) I've ever seen. Nothing beats the scene to the tug-o-war between two steam road locomotives at the company picnic!
