As for converting the Tyco Cars. It all depwnds on how the cars fit into your overall plan. If they fit where you are growing, you might convert them. If you want a cheap car to play with while you are developng your plan, you might want to convert them. However, if they don't fit you ultimate plans, why bother.

Yikes!! That's what I thought, too! I didn't think I had gotten that far out of hand lately. [:0][(-D]

Sorry, usher42, back to your question... if it is for DC locos, sure, but only in the same direction, and only for the amperage rating of your transformer and locos at a whole. If it is DC, you are not considering DCC...?

[?][?][?] Was I sleeping? I am now totally confused [:0]

http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/150-215 will do the job.
If your pack has sufficient amps, you could run two + locos on the
same track w/o contoller/selectors but I think you may be thinking of
DC block control or want a simple double oval.

Not sure just what the Atlas controller is but it should run two trains but NOT in the same electrical block. For example, you could have two circles of track, one inside the other, and run a train on each if they were electrically isolated from one another. The main thing to consider is the ampere capacity of the controller and the current draw of your loco motors. If you have a two amp controller and each motor draws one amp or less, you can do it.
Question two: you can convert anything to knuckle couplers. Just be sure that they mount at the same height above the rail. This height is standardized by the NMRA and is available on their web or you can purchase a gauge from your local hobby shop.
Hope this helps,
BB
