Gargoyles
Posted by BruceJob on Thursday, January 9, 2003 7:51 PM

OK...now that I've got your attention...

I'm looking for a source for HO scale and proportioned gargoyles, lion heads, and art deco style statues to add to a building facade. I'm constructing a city scene including a theater and a skyscraper and these details would really add interest.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Not exactly gargoyles but.... I have seen tiny "Dungeons and Dragons" styles dragons and fantasy characters, very tiny, as JEWELRY CHARMS in the bead and jewelry findings sections of craft stores like Hobby Lobby. I just built an HO model of the Wentzville, MO fire station with one of the nation's early Vietnam veterans memorials, a statue of an Eagle on a pedestal, using an eagle from the CHARM section of a craft store. Had to go to four craft stores to find it. Some small scale carvings are made as ship's figureheads in the MODEL SHIP SCRATCHBUILDERS SUPPLY section of some hobby shops. I once used a ship's eagle figurehead for the neo-classical federal eagle stone decoration over the entrance of an N scale Chicago school building. Wouldn't it be funny if you found the perfect part in 10k gold at a jewelry store and had to paint and weather it to look like cast concrete or terra-cotta???? Good luck.
