Train Sims
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, August 18, 2005 12:25 PM
Though I am still building my RB & SW railroad in the basement, I ventured into the world of virtual railroading over the past week or so. I got hooked on Trainz. Tthough I only have the free demo you can download, it seems to have everything a frustrated modeler needs to create a creation of your own. No, it's not the same as the real thing, but it does allow for a lot of creativity, planning and operations for a lot less expense.

I guess I'll have to wait for the new Trainz06 to be released so I can utilize all of the features available, but I must admit it is a lot of fun. Don't get me wrong now, I will never leave my real modeling endevor in the basement. But when the time comes when you get frustrated with your hands on experiences, the virtual route is the way to go to keep you in the RR spirit.

Does anyone know the release date for Trainz06?

Rotor,

There were several sites out there for the demo. Just do a google search for trainz demo. This sitre should take you directly to the download:

http://compsimgames.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?zi=1/XJ&sdn=compsimgames&zu=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.actiontrip.com%2Ffiles%2Fdemos%2Ftrainz.phtml

If not, just go to the various sites as produced by your search engins. This download is pretty good except it only gives you a key stroke reference and not an actual tutorial. You'll have to do a lot of hunt and peck while playing, but after a while you'll kind of know what you're doing. You can't get into the trainz downloads without a serial number, but you'll get a feel for the simulation. Just be sure you have a fast PC, lots of RAM and a fairly decent graphics card. Have fun,

Joe

OK...found several sites, but now need to know, did you get the 63MB download, or the 223 mb dl? And wonder what the difference is, besides 160 MB?

Rotor,

Checking my DL file, it's 101MB zipped. It took around 20 min to download with broadband. The version I have has scenario, driver,y collection and surveyor,
It only has 1 layout route though its a decent size, two or 3 locos and around 10 rolling stock. It's a stripped down version but really gives a feel for the sim.You can do a layout though limited with surveyor.
