Testors Dullcote

I've been useing testors dullcote for years and never had a problem with it. I just sealed a tender with it after painting with scalecoat II and decaling, like I've done for years, letting it dry for 3 days and when I touch it the dullcote changes color where my fingers touched it. My hands were clean. Also I didn't know you could wash it off with water, which is probably why it discolors when I touch it. I have other engines I painted before that don't do this. Has anyone else had this problem? What do you use to dullcote your engines after decaling. Thanks for your help!

Hello Strider1,

I use Dullcote and have for years with good results. It sounds as if the Dullcote use sprayed on may have gone bad. Dullcote is lacquer-based, so it shouldn't wash off with water.

Sounds as if you might have to strip and repaint the tender, as unpleasant as that sounds.

Anyone else with an idea as to what chemical process occurred here?
