Last summer I purchaswed a Trix Big Boy and obtained a german made smoke unit that just dropped right into the smokestack. the unit cost about $22 w/ fluid and syringe applicator. It works fairly well in my Trix unit. I don't know whether it will also work in a Rivarossi unit. You might try contacting Walthers since they now have a relationship with Rivarossi.

A German company called Seuthe makes smoke/steam generators for German-prototype locos in HO scale.(they also make the smoke fluid). Since they are not really meant for American models, they might require a tad bit of cutting in order to install one... Otherwise, all you have to do is get the smoke fluid and hook up a few wires. You can order the unit and smoke fluid from Walthers.
