White Wall Tires
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, December 10, 2002 3:07 PM
My n-scale layout in set in the 1950's and lately I have been assembling and painting some cars from that era. Almost every photo I have retrieved over the internet shows these cars with whitewall tires. I would love to have this feature on my cars, but painting a whitewall on tires that small seems to me impossible. Anybody have some good ideas?

One idea that comes to mind is to paint the whole tire white, then spread out some black paint on a smooth surface and roll the tire thru it (after the white dries). You'll get black on the tread and white on the whitewall. This is assuming you're going for the WIDE white-walls of course. the ones that didn't show much black on the side walls.

That's a good idea - if I may expand on it, how about rolling the tire on a stamp pad (with black ink, of course)?
