Plastic Ties
Posted by BR60103 on Thursday, December 5, 2002 9:02 PM
Today's newswire says that Union Pacific is ordering plastic ties for the railroad.

Just puts them about 50 years behind us modellers, eh?

(Anyone have a date for the first plastic tied model railway track?)

I just wonder if after 50 years we'll be able to recycle them !!

Wonder if the ties will melt when crews weld rail joints to replace bad sections of rail?

Maybe they will use prototype rail joiners like the ones Atals makes for HO scale.
