City Streets
Posted by bpolvo on Wednesday, December 4, 2002 4:48 PM
I am modeling a city trolley street and need advice on realistic street techniques. I want to have a brick look in the ceter of the rails an a concrete look over the rest of the road. Any ideas?

Hello bpolvo,

I recommend getting a copy of "Building City Scenery For Your Model Railroad." Author John Pryke covers street techniques on pages 46-50. He suggests using precolored cobbled-embossed paper from Faller between the rails.

You can order this book from Kalmbach online at http://index.mrmag.com/tm.exe?opt=S&cmdtext=doodlebug&output=3&sort=D.

There was a great series in MR some years ago called the Brandywine Transit,it went into great detail on streets and track. You may want to contact MR to see if they have the issues available.

Actually, Ed, you can check online yourself to see if back issues of MR and other Kalmbach magazines are available. The 10-part Brandywine Transit series was published from May 1975 to October 1976. The May, July, and November 1975 issues are still available, as are the January, May, and August 1976 issues. These can be ordered at http://store.yahoo.net/kalmbachcatalog/model-railroading-model-railroader-magazine-back-issues-1973-1979.html.

Clicking on the Back Issues link on the upper lefthand corner of the MR homepage (next to small version of the current magazine cover) will take you to the list of back issues that are available.
