battery operated g scale

I would like to build a g=scale garden railroad but do not want to have to depend on the rails to conduct power. What is the easiest/cheapest way to run a battery powered g scale locomotive?

Give the Garden Railways forum a look-see.

Try using Radio Controlled car battery packs - these deliver 7.2 volts and will give a reasonable amount of run time. Also, most Radio Control gear is designed to work with these packs.

I have a battery opperated G scale steam locomotive with a couple of cars. You just flip the switch in the cab and then control the train with the remote control. It's pretty cool. Mine makes sounds like chuffing and whistling.
